Your Immersive Summer Horse Experience
This summer, dive deep into the world of horses with our intensive, hands-on training series. Choose from four 3-day modules or, for the most profound learning, join us for the full 12-day comprehensive experience. From the fundamentals of haltering, leading, and grooming, to advanced skills like clicker training, target work, lunging, line driving, saddling, and riding; you’ll gain practical skills and a deep understanding of horse handling, training, and care, all through a Positive Reinforcement lens.

Guiding you through this journey is Dr. Jena Questen (Dr. Q), a dynamic international speaker, Certified Professional Animal Trainer, and licensed veterinarian with over 30 years in the equine industry. Dr. Q makes learning engaging, fun, and scientifically sound, ensuring a safe and effective experience for all ages. Summer 2025: Schedule & Learning Focus
Our program is structured over four modules. Each day includes a combination of morning (9:00 AM - 11:30 AM) and afternoon (1:00 PM - 3:30 PM) sessions. (Please note: classes may occasionally run longer depending on student and horse needs.)
Module 1: Foundations & Beginner Skills
Friday, June 6: Special All-Day Live Horse Training MasterClass with Dr. Q!
Saturday, June 7: Meet the horses; beginner clicker & target training.
Sunday, June 8: Practice target training; introduction to Protected Contact.
Module 2: Building Confidence & Early Intermediate
Friday, July 11: DrQ's Horse Training Masterclass; Meet the horses; intermediate clicker, target, mat & station training.
Saturday, July 12: Intermediate clicker & target training; intermediate 'Naked Grooming'.
Sunday, July 13: Intermediate clicker & target training; 'Naked Grooming'; begin halter & leading.
Module 3: Deepening Intermediate Skills
Friday, July 25: DrQ's Horse Training Masterclass; 'Naked Grooming'; haltering & leading.
Saturday, July 26: Intermediate target training (ball, mat, station); haltering & leading.
Sunday, July 27: Sending to mats & stations; transitioning to free lunge and/or on-property trail adventures.
Module 4: Advanced Concepts & R+ Trainer Awards
Friday, August 15: DrQ's Horse Training Masterclass; 'Naked Grooming'; intermediate target training (mat, station, ball).
Saturday, August 16: 'Naked Grooming'; halter & leading; transitioning to free lunge, line driving & trail adventures.
Sunday, August 17: Practice & Perform (either practice drills or, if participating, the routine for the competition); Freestyle Open R+ Competition & R+ Trainer of the Year Awards! (This inspiring session is FREE and open to the public to observe.)
Good to Know Before You Go
Prerequisite: To participate in hands-on sessions, you must have successfully completed the Horse Training Masterclass online course OR have attended the Live Masterclass (either option must have been completed within the past year). THIS COURSE IS OFFERED EVERY FRIDAY DURING OUR SUMMER SERIES WEEKENDS.
Lunch Included: Enjoy lunch with us! It's included in all package options.
Dress Comfortably & Safely: Wear clothing suitable for active participation; bending, lifting, and kneeling. Closed-toe shoes are essential.
Focused Learning Environment: To ensure the best experience for everyone, please limit cell phone use to emergencies during class sessions.

The R+ Approach - The Animal's Choice: This is Positive Reinforcement training, where animals have a voice and a choice. Progress depends on each individual horse and their comfort. There are no guarantees regarding specific timelines for interaction levels (e.g., working without protected contact, haltering, leading, riding). This fluid, respectful method allows animals to choose their partners and pace. Experienced R+ participants may progress to riding, but this is always guided by the horse's willingness and does require the ResqRanch Instructor's approval.
Continue Your Journey: After the course, we encourage you to become a volunteer trainer! We’ll support your continued development in building safe, magical relationships with horses.
